A Pair Stools

The legs of these Empire stools are in accumulated semi-circels which are joint in the middel with a baluster and decorated with a gilt flower shaped mount.

At the French court the name tabouret was given to small but richly decorated small stools which on which only high placed notables were allowed to sit in the presence of the royals. The expression 'recevoir le tabouret' meant therefore receiving an honour.
