A Charger with 'Hundred Antiquities' Decoration in Polychrome Dutch Delftware
The charger has a blue edge and chinese- inspired decoration with the so-called 'Hundred Antiquities', a design incorporating a great number of sacred and profane objects from the life of a scholar or wise man. The 'Eight Treasures' are symbols of happiness usualy represented by a jewel; a coin; an either open or closed lozenge; books; musical stone; horns and artemisia leaves. Not all these are necessarily depicted at once and it was possible to substitute objects ass well, as to be seen in this charger.
