Flemish or French, late XVIIth. Century, Louis XIV style.
A superb of large walnut armchairs with slightly slanted rectangular backrests and cushioned seat. Scrolled and partly foliate carved arms finishing in 'bec de corbin'. On block and spooled turned legs linked by a stretcher. Both chairs upholstered in period wool 'gros-point' and 'petit-point' needlepoint, with typical Louis XIV cartouches of different design. The condition of the upholstery is surprisingly good, some wear of use on the seats. The wood has a rich warm patina.
