Carved and painted wood Grotto chair. Seat and backrest in the shape of a sea-shell. Backrest supported by a sea-horse. The four splayed legs composed by stylized conch-shells. Silvered and green painted finish. Grotto furniture was made in the 1890s by firm of Pauly et Cie. Illustrated in Newman and Duncan, Fantasy Furniture, New York, 1989, page 62.
